✓ cabbage as desired - put as many as you want
✓ ½ cup of salt for every 1 gallon of water 
✓ 4 Beets

The water should be room temperature when pickling

Cabbage gets pickled quickly when placed in august or september because outside temperatures are high therefore, the pickling starts fast.
