Homemade Baklava: The Ultimate Guide to a Sweet Delight!

Welcome my friends! Today, I'm diving into the art of making Homemade Baklava, a rich, sweet, and flaky dessert that’s loved around the world. This classic recipe combines layers of buttery phyllo dough, a mix of finely chopped nuts, and an indulgent honey syrup that soaks into every delicious bite. Whether you’re a seasoned baker or trying Baklava for the first time, this step-by-step guide will help you create a masterpiece that’s perfect for any occasion.

📋 Ingredients:
✓ 450 g Package of Phyllo Dough
✓ 3 Sticks of Butter 16oz

For the Filling:
✓ 4 cups of Chopped Walnuts 1 ½ Pound
✓ 4 tablespoons of Melted Butter
✓ 1 ½ teaspoons of Cinnamon
✓ Zest of One Lemon
✓ Zest of One Orange
✓ ½ teaspoon of Salt
✓ ½ cup of Granulated Sugar

For the Syrup:
✓ ½ cup of Granulated Sugar
✓ ¾ cup of Honey
✓ 1 Cup of Water
✓ 2 teaspoons of Vanilla Extract
✓ 1 lemon Juice

1. Prepare the Filling:
Grate the zest of the lemon and orange.
Finely grind the walnuts.
In a large bowl, mix the ground walnuts, sugar, salt, grated zest of lemon and orange, and cinnamon. Finally, add the melted butter and combine well. Set the filling aside.

2. Assemble the Baklava:
Brush a baking pan with melted butter.

Here is the layer breakdown:
6 pieces of buttered phyllo, 3/4 cup of filling
4 pieces of buttered phyllo, 3/4 cup of filling
4 pieces of buttered phyllo, 3/4 cup of filling
4 pieces of buttered phyllo, 3/4 cup of filling
4 pieces of buttered phyllo, 3/4 cup of filling
8 pieces of buttered phyllo as the very top layer.

Place the first sheet of phyllo dough, brush it with butter, and add another sheet. Repeat this process until you have layered the first six sheets.
After placing the sixth sheet, brush it with butter, then add about ¾ cup of the filling.
Continue by layering four more sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter. Don’t worry if the sheets tear; just keep layering.
After the fourth layer, add more filling and repeat the process until all the filling and phyllo are used.
For the final layers, use 6-8 sheets, brushing each with butter. Pour any remaining butter over the top.
Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour.

3. Prepare the Syrup:
Pour water into a saucepan and bring to a boil. Add the honey and stir lightly.
Add the sugar, lemon juice, and vanilla. Remove from heat and let the syrup cool.

4. Bake:
Take the baklava out of the refrigerator and cut it into four long strips, then cut diagonally at a 45-degree angle all the way to the bottom.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 40-45 minutes.

5. Final Step:
As soon as you take the baklava out of the oven, pour the syrup over the entire surface while it's still hot. Let it cool slightly before serving. The taste of this specialty is indescribable—you simply have to try it!

🌟 Tips for Perfect Baklava:
Keep your phyllo dough covered to prevent it from drying out.
Pour the hot syrup over the cooled Baklava or vice versa for the best texture.
Experiment with different nut combinations for unique flavors!
